The story is "What Drives Her". The first chapter is posted on FF. Chapter 2 is with my beta, and I have finished about 2 further chapters, and the rest of it is outlined. I will update again when I have at least 2 chapters beta'd and ready to go. It will be primarily from Edward's POV, which is why I am lurking here on a fairly regular basis!!Susie wrote:Virginia May - MS makes me love Edward more too! On a side note, I see that the consensus is that Edward fell for Bella at first sight. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter (everyone who answered my earlier post, as well as those who have mentioned it in passing) That gives me some renewed confidence that will be going into a little story I'm working on, and I appreciate the boost!!
OK Now I have to finish the last 40 pages and report back to the thread!!!

I just started reading for the 2nd time since the first time was last year. Edward really is amazing. I am only on page 46 but when Edward first glanced at Bella in the cafeteria he felt protective of her but when he comes back from the Denali Family and he sees her again during lab he really looks at her. At that point he is attractive to her and he still doesn't realize it.

Does it just kill anyone else how much Edward suffers in the month between Tyler's almost vehicular manslaughter of Bella and when Edward finally speaks to her again?? The way he describes Bella's indifference of him just breaks my heart. And I was shocked to find out that as yet he hadn't visited her window yet, so he doesn't know she is dreaming of him every night when he finally does break down and speak with her. Agh... Good stuff, I love SM's Edward so much!

Yes! This is the time of the greatest inward struggle for Edward. He is definitely torn apart and very confused. Reading that section makes me feel very tense. SM does such a great job of making us FEEL. That's what I love about the Saga!

What I love about that torturous time is how totally unaware Bella is of his struggles. She thinks he hates her and that he wishes she was dead. It is SO true of first love. I read Twilight up against MS, and the complete misunderstanding between the two of them is so completely typical it's hilarious.

MS made some people think that Edward is evil? Interesting.Jazz Girl wrote: Hmmmm, actually, I've encountered quite a number of antis (and on this bloody site for that matter) who say that MS just confirmed for them how evil Edward truly is, that he's wrong for Bella and blah blah blah (yes, my opinion of that is fairly obvious). For me, I don't see how it is possible to see Edward's love for Bella in his own words, how profoundly and at his core she moved him, changed him, and not be moved by it.
I could come up with reasons why I think Jacob is evil & not good for Bella too!
I just love knowing that SM basically always knew that B & E were going to be together, get married & have a baby. Jacob didn't have a chance once Edward came into Bella's life!
I never noticed/thought of that before. It is so true & typical!Openhome wrote:What I love about that torturous time is how totally unaware Bella is of his struggles. Don't you all just wish that she'd completed it through the meadow!?! That's what kills me the most...
What was SM's Edward REALLY thinking the whole time? Like why did he seem so against wanting to frighten Bella, but then go ripping up trees and smashing them to bits. He's immediately remorseful about it, but still... what was our Edward thinking??

Re: Midnight Sun - The 12 Chapters
The meadow scene, up through the morning after, are the scenes I miss most from Edward's POV, those first declarations of true love. I have a soft spot in my heart for when Bella sits on Edward's lap the next day in the rocking chair, and tells him "I love you".
In the meadow, we know that Edward initially ran away because he smells her throat. When Edward returns and sits down, Bella starts to understand that the situation has turned dangerous and experiences fear and a rush of adrenaline, and knows that Edward can sense that.
Edward's display of speed and strength is likely due to his predatory side being triggered, the "monster" inside him that wants Bella's blood. When he is done and comes back and apologizes, I take it as having a double meaning: he is sorry he has frightened her, but he is also sorry for what he is considering doing to her. Thankfully, we know he makes the right decision.
As to exactly "Why" Edward goes into this display instead of remaining in a sitting position, your guess is as good as mine. I would suppose the hunting instinct has its own adrenline-type rush and Edward is compelled to act on it, burning off some of the energy in a non-lethal way.

"It will take an amazing amount of control,” she mused. “More even than Carlisle has. He may be just strong enough…the only thing he’s not strong enough to do is stay away from her. That’s a lost cause.”
