I would say that through Twilight we can see the progress made in technology in such a short period of time.
We have to keep in mind that Twilight was written back in 2003. I was 23 years old and I owned a cell phone (my first one). At the time, only a really small minority of high school students owned cell phones and I can recall that they were seen as aliens ("what is the need of a 17-year-old to carry a mobile?") Twilight the movie was released in 2008 when literally everyone would have a phone in their pockets!
In 2003 I didn't own a laptop, but a cousin of mine did. It was HEAVY and SLOW and pop-up windows will be all over the place. Of course there were models which were expensive and more advanced. When I bought my laptop in 2007, the prices had dropped - as it happens with technology - and I got a fairly good machine in a fairly good price.
No one mentioned Bella's camera! In New Moon (the book) she gets from Charlie a camera that uses film. In 2004 -I remember the year because I watched Paralympic Games in Athens and I had my film camera with me- the majority of the spectators owned film cameras, whereas the athletes mainly owned digital ones. In New Moon (the movie, released in 2009, when I am not sure whether film cameras still existed
) we see Bella with a digital camera, using her own printer to print her photos at home.
As far as Renesmee's mp3 player is concerned, I have always imagined that it would be an iPod nano 16 GB (in order to hold 5000 songs) but that's maybe because I read Breaking Dawn in 2009, when the device already existed. The book though was first published in August 2008, so I can't be sure about my theory any more...
