I really like the Cullen house as described in the books. And I'm very visual when I read so I wanted to picture the house with more detail.
Mandy, I was disappointed with the ultramodern look of the house in the movies. I always imagined the mansion to be something like this: http://www.longshotsmansion.com/ but on a much, much larger scale. It's described as white with a wrap around porch with a classic look.

Hi there Lady4String!! Good to see you here!
My banner contains my photoshop rendition of what the house might look like. I HATE the modern look of the movie house.

This is the Whitlock Inn. lol! I imagined the Cullen's house to be a gigantic version of this: http://www.whitlockinn.com/ A friend had her wedding reception there. However, this is probably closer to what I imagined: Cullen Mansion

I think maybe vampires might not like really big fireplaces. 8-)

When I read in BD I immediately loved the description of the cottage...
It looks as a cute and romantic place ...the perfect one for two persons in love as Bella and Edward...
The house of my dreams

One of the things I related to Bella with is her simplicity.
I would have picked a cottage instead of a mansion. hands down.

I picture it along the lines of looking like this but in a much more woodsy/wild setting and without the manicured lawn.

I can see lot's of tree's and pretty wild flowers around it with vines growing up the side or something. Also a stone pathway to the door.

I've tried to draw a floorplan of the cottage a few times--but it's problematic! Rooms that have to be included are the front room, Renesmee's room, the master bedroom, and a closet bigger than the master bedroom. I can't figure out a good way to make all this small, and square-ish.

BUT: did Esme build this cottage before Bella got pregnant? If so, she would have included a bathroom, and maybe a kitchenette. Perhaps she was thinking they would do their showering, etc. at the big house, but if Bella was human, she'd need a bathroom in the cottage, too.

And what about Renesmee's needs? Wouldn't she need a bathroom, or at least a sink? SM doesn't go into details, but I would think even though Renesmee is smart enough not to need diapers, she'd still need reglular bathing! I guess Aunt Alice would love to share her bathroom at the big house . . .
