yeah, jacob acted like more of a parent than bella and edward combined. And um i thought rosalie(sp?) wanted bella's baby for herself, since she didn't get a chance to have kids while human?

While I am a little upset that there was not as much Edward and Nessie time as I would have liked, I don't believe that that is because Edward disliked Nessie for any reason, or because Jacob was there and being the man in Nessie's life, I think we just didn't see it because there were so many other things to be looking at, what with Bella learning how to be a vampire, and then all the other vampires coming and the thing with the Volturi at the end. I've read a few of your posts about how Edward didn't seem to be as doting a father as you would've expected, but I don't think that's true. I think you can tell just how much he really loves Nessie and all that right after Bella wakes up to being a vampire and he's talking about her. Yes, he's not being all mushy about how he's talking about her, and maybe it's just the way I imagined his face and how he sounded when he was talking, but I got the feeling from that of just how much he really loved his daughter. He seemed to me to be very ready to take on fatherhood once he got past wanting to kill the fetus, which was only because it was killing Bella. After that though, I think he really embraces fatherhood and is ready to do anything for Nessie. Look at how he is with not only Bella, but also Alice and Esme. He already dotes on them in a way, and the way he treats the women in his life definitely shows wonderful fatherhood potential, and I believe that he really does live up to that potential.

Excellent!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I believe that Edward loves Renesmee dearly, but, as was pointed out, there was just so much going on throughout the third book of BD that it was really inconceivable for SM to focus on the budding relationship between Nessie and her parents, but I do believe it was there. I definitely want to see more of them as a family though, so I hope that (should SM continue with this series) that factors into the next of the books.

She's a half human and half vampire, a hybrid vampire. She combines characteristics from both species, so, no, Edward doesn't have to change her.

Edward changed Bella after Renesmeee was born. If he had changed Bella during the pregnancy, she'd be frozen pregnant for the eternity.

I presume you haven't read the book yet.

Ahh, you shouldn't be messing around on this site without having finished the series!!
Not that we don't want you here, but the amount of spoilers you will encounter are likely infinite.
I recommend you finish the series and then come back in here.
It would be much more enjoyable for you

I, too, was disappointed in the lack of Edward/Ness time. Honestly, though, I don't think it's because there was a lack of father/daughter love, the book is from Bella's point of view. Things and how they affect her are what's shown. I mean, I firmly believe that Edward and Ness had a lot of "off-screen" time. Point of fact, was when Ness showed Bella the memory of Edward holding her and humming her a lullabye (with Bella lying in the background).

I mean there were a lot of times when Jake or Rosalie were around and holding on to Ness and I'm thinking, "Dang it, why can't Edward be the one to hold her?" I was happy with the scene when Edward was holding Ness while Bella arm wrestled Emmett. I was happy it was Edward who snatched Ness out of Bella's arms when he saw that Ness showed Bella that she was hungry for human blood.

I want BD from Edward's point of view. I mean I was a little shocked over his reaction to the pregnancy, a little open mouthed when he told Jake to convince Bella to get rid of the baby and have kids with her, but once he heard the baby's thoughts -- he was gone. I loved the transformation. I think in his mind the baby hated Bella and that was why she was hurting her. But when Edward realized the baby loved Bella like he did -- he fell under her spell.

And I think if Edward hadn't had to divide his time between helping Bella adjust to newborn status, helping Carlisle research what was happening with his child and preparing for the Volturi battle ... there would have been lots and lots of Edward/Ness moments and possible less and less Jake/Ness moments.

I don't thinl that Edward is father material.....He's obviously nervous about the whole father thing....Nessise is really lucky is Edward is there for her.....Just like Jacob.....So Edward is just going to have to expect the fact that Nessie has another man in her life and not just her dad...

But what new father isn't nervous about being a dad for the first time? There's no "natural" thing about it, it's a learned interaction between parent and child. A mother has had time to bond with her child while pregnant, but even then sometimes when a mother gives birth she's not instantly connected with her child. Men feel the same way. And it's hard to go from the extreme of hating something that's killing the person you love to absolute adoration. I think he did a great job.

And since she's so young, I don't think Edward should have to expect that another man should be in her life catering to her every need. That's a father's job. Not the guy who imprinted on her and now has to wait several years to act on whatever feelings are growing inside of him.

But that's just my opinion.
