Some of these vampires, the changed ones, that is - their special talents came from what they did best while they were still human, right?

Edward's talent - I wonder what was the closest thing to "reading mind" when he was still a human? The ability to read people through gestures and body languages ... or eyes? Or just plain pricky ears?

Like Bella, what she did best while she was still a human was blocking others out, which turned out to be a very cool talent indeed after her transformation.

So, any thoughts on this?

Reading the first three books made it seem as though most vampires had no special talent and the ones with gifts were definitely the minority (most of them sought out by Aro and part of the Volturi with the exception of the Cullens). I was a little disappointed when just about everyone we met during the book had a talent. Maybe that's just because Carlisle has a way of befriending talented vampires but it did seem a little strange to me. Kind of like how imprinting was supposed to be the rarity and so many of the shapeshifters seemed to imprint, most of the vapires collected at the end had a special talent of some sort. I guess I was expecting it to be more rare.

i thought that, too, but then i realized there had never been that large a number of werewolves before, you know? so maybe if it was like 2 out of 5 or 6, that's still somewhat rare. but since there are more werewolves, the fraction would increase. get what i'm saying? maybe i'm crazy.

yeah, I get what you're saying, savannah. In one way, it's scary as well.

And anyway, Carlisle deserves to be gifted. But then again, if you think about it, he IS gifted. The only difference is that, he worked for this gift (being a doctor, helping others - I consider that a gift, not everyone can be a people-person whatever) while others were born with their talents, get what I mean?

Re: Vampire Special Talents - Volturi Question

I must say I'm sorry to start off because I'm not sure if this is where this question should be. It didn't seem to fit anywhere else though and I couldn't find the answer anywhere else.

How do the Volturi travel? I just can't see them getting on an airplane like the Cullens. Not only would they be WAY tempted by the humans - especially in such close proximity - but there are so MANY of them there would be no way to stay inconspicuous. Do they have their OWN airplane? I guess we could assume they SWAM there but that seems silly too. ALL of those people swimming across the ocean then, what? Hiking across America to get to Washington? Seems crazy to me.

Maybe I missed this in the book(s) but it seems a logical question. Does someone know this answer or at least have a better guess than mine?

Thanks!!!

I think that Ben's power has the most room to be explored. It wasnt explained a whole lot in the actual book, and she left a lot of room for fan fiction/shot stories on this topic. Controlling elements has taken a lot of different forms in a lot of different books. I'm curious to see how Stephanie would do it.

teamm jane.
she has the most amazing power. how can you not want that?
i mean, full grown vampires are afraid of her. i especially like
her power since apparently, it didnt come from her former life.
it was the pain of the fire burning her. now its some super
scary power that million year old vampire royalty fear!!!

When I read about Bella's power as a shield or a "love shield", as someone somewhere said, I thought how that fit so much with her childhood. Her parents were separated, her mother was a bit scattered, she grew up feeling protective toward her mother when she should have felt her mother was protecting her. Also, she was shielding herself in a very intense way, because she didn't feel anyone else was looking out for her. And, of course, when she moves in with Charlie, she feels very protective toward him, and feels surprised when she sees the chains on the tires that someone would be looking out to protect her.
